Meet the Team

  • Zoë Lawton

    Founder & Chief Legal Counsel

    Prior to becoming a barrister, Zoë clerked for the Principal Family Court Judge and worked as a researcher for the Chief Victims Advisor to Government at the Ministry of Justice. She has undertaken a range of advocacy initiatives to raise awareness of sexual harm and the need to improve legal processes. This includes her widely read #Metoo Blog, research, consultation, media appearances and public speaking.

  • Alison Mau

    Founder and Chief of Advocacy and Engagement

    A long-time advocate for women's rights in Aotearoa, in 2018 Alison created the #MeTooNZ journalism project at Stuff. Over five years, MeTooNZ published dozens of major investigations and changed the way sexual harassment is reported by media, using a trauma-informed and survivor-focussed kaupapa. In 2021, Alison was awarded Reporter of the Year for her leadership of the project, with judges at the Voyager Awards commending her “fearless, determined pursuits that deserve the highest commendation.”

  • Prue Kapua (Te Arawa, Ngāti Kahungunu)

    Chair, Board of Trustees

    Prue Kapua is the principal of Tamatekapua Law and has an extensive background in resource management and the Treaty sector. She is currently a member of the Waitangi Tribunal,  was Chair of the Interim Te Rōpū on Family Violence, Sexual Violence, and Violence within Whanau.  She was president of the Māori Women’s Welfare League from 2014 to 2022 and is a trustee of Māori Women’s Development Inc.

  • Hayden Wilson

    Member, Board of Trustees

    Hayden is Chair of Dentons in New Zealand, and Global Vice Chair of the Dentons Global Board. He is a dispute resolution expert and is internationally recognised as a leading advocate and highly skilled mediator. He has extensive experience helping organisations resolve complex commercial and public law issues. Hayden works across the range of public law disciplines including core administrative public law issues, advice on legislative obligations, and judicial review in the public sector. He helps both public and private sector clients to manage a wide range of public law issues, including managing and reviewing risk, advising on privacy and information law, human rights obligations, and regulatory issues.

  • Jo Stansfield

    Member, Board of Trustees

    Jo has extensive customer and operations transformation experience in senior leadership roles spanning more than 20 years with Vodafone, Auckland Transport, Kiwibank and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). She is an expert in delivering change and transformation programmes across people, process and technology in Corporate, Government and Local Government sectors. Jo is currently Chief of Capability at Fortysouth, a digital infrastructure company and is a Trustee for Construction Health and Safety New Zealand (CHASNZ).

  • Arran Hunt

    Member, Board of Trustees

    Arran is a Partner at McVeagh Fleming, with extensive experience in social media law, primarily focussing on online harm legislation. His expertise has been acknowledged through presentations to the Justice select Committee, and referenced in parliament. In addition to his expertise in online harm, Arran is a highly experienced Immigration Lawyer recognised for his skill in demystifying the immigration process and providing valuable advice and guidance on navigating the complexities of the immigration system.

  • Maria Dew KC (Britomart Chambers)

    Head of Litigation

    Maria was appointed as Queen’s Counsel in 2018, and has been a barrister since 2000. 

    Maria has a focus on all areas of employment law, acting for both employers and senior employees including urgent injunctions, disciplinary and grievance actions, independent contractor issues, health and safety, equal pay, privacy and human rights matters. Maria is currently the President of the New Zealand Bar Association | Ngā Ahorangi Motuhake o te Ture. Maria also acts in related civil proceedings where disputes arise related to professional misconduct before the Courts and a variety of Tribunals.
